Societal changes have resulted in children having limited opportunities for unstructured play. Free play is often replaced by structured, adult-led activities. Increased academic pressure has caused a reduction in open play and recess. An increase in digital and screen use has caused a lack of physical activity as well as social and emotional delays. Play is how children learn, and research shows unstructured independent play is a fundamental part of developing self-management, problem solving, communication skills, and emotional regulation among other physical, cognitive, social, and emotional competencies. Kids Wonder is the place for children to play, to challenge themselves, make new friends, and let their imagination run wild.
Announcing the opening of Kids Wonder, South Denver Metro’s only play facility for children 8 and under to provide a wide range of fun activities dedicated to intentional play in a safe environment.
Kids Wonder’s 13,000 square foot play center will offer children opportunities to challenge themselves as they learn to navigate social relationships and unleash the power of their imaginations. The center includes: a large toddler play area with soft mats for the little ones to play safely, a pretend “Lil’ Town” for imaginative and dramatic play, huge blocks for creative play, and fun inflatables to tame their wiggles. Additionally, there will be a large party area to celebrate special events, a gift shop with educational, creative, and imaginative toys, a snack bar with healthy snacks for kids and adults, and a secure entrance. To help adults work or relax, Kids Wonder will offer free WiFi, ample seating, and adult exercise equipment.
To extend beyond the benefits of play, Kids Wonder has created developmental classes for our Lil’Players (classes for a caring adult and their 0 to 4 year old) to bond, learn, and grow in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment through the use of developmental standards adapted from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Head Start. Our Lil’Learner (preschool aged children) classes are created to master early skills by building on interactive and engaging best practices, focusing on the Alphabet, Sounds, Numbers, Math and Patterns, Colors and Shapes, and Social and Emotional skills. Kids Wonder will also offer classes and activities for Lil’Movers (creative dance), Lil’Makers (STEM, crafts), Lil’Thinkers (toddler book club), and Big’Brains (adult enrichment).
It is the Mission of Kids Wonder to inspire children to create, think, share, imagine, sing, move, and grow, through play; fostering the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children. It is our goal to intentionally support healthier and happier children, leading to stronger families and ultimately a healthier, happier, and stronger community.
